The RailroadIn the future heavy goods traffic such as container freight will be carried increasingly by rail. Container traffic will increase and the management of empty containers will become essential and there will be a need for transit and containerisation terminals. The railways will find new competitive opportunities at the logistics hubs. At the present time the railway is not being used to its full potential. Rail freight has to be able to compete with road transport in order to increase its share. New types of services will be required by businesses and these can be achieved by combining all the advantages of the different modes of transport. Innovative functional models are planned for the HEA Logistics Centre which will promote rail transport and the capabilities of other transportation models. Additional to the Turku-Tampere railroad a new rail route is required from Lohja to Pori in order to maximise the benefits from transport supply chains. Passenger traffic routes have been designed to be flexible to provide for the future increase in public transport flow to the airport. |
